The UNESCO-Cousteau Ecotechnie Program:
"The UNESCO-Cousteau Ecotechnie Programme (UCEP) is an international initiative to promote interdisciplinary education, research and policy-making in the field of the environment and development. It is a joint effort of UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere Programme (MAB) and The Cousteau Society."
UNESCO-Cousteau Ecotechnie Chairs have been created in universities in a number of countries, including Argentina and India. Regional networks, coordinated by the Ecotechnie Chairs, are open to all interested institutions active in Ecotechnie related approaches.
The Director-General of UNESCO, Koïchiro Matsuura, established the UNESCO-Cousteau Ecotechnie Chair in Global Coastal Assessment at the University of Rhode Island on September 30, 2004. Ms Louise V. Oliver, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of the United States of America to UNESCO and Dr Robert Carothers, President of the University of Rhode Island, participated in the ceremony in Paris.
