The Courier on the Human Rights

Stéphane Hessel died on Feb 27. Click here for UNESCO Director General Bokova's tribute to Ambassador Hessel.

He helped edit the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations in 1948. Hessel, in an article in the UNESCO Courier in 2008, explained how the document is unique and why it must remain universal – but also why it might not be adopted today.

UNESCO published an issue of The Courier in 1968, the International Year for Human Rights, devoted to the topic.
